A town drawn by what lands on it
move the pointer to raise the ash · press and drag to blow it off the roofs · catch ball lightning and throw it, or tap it to pop it · drag a whirl to bend it, or tap it · hold a lightning whirl and point where it should strike · tap the column for its lightning · in the burial, hold on the cloud and let go to send lightning crawling · tap a lit lamp to short it · hold on a burning house and let go to raise a firestorm · drag across the glass to wipe the ash off the lens · the drifts remember
A town under a volcano, and nothing in it is drawn but the ash. A roof is a grey shape, a wall is the black gap between the ash on the roof and the ash at its foot, and the only light is the mountain's: a crater that throbs on the horizon and throws the shadows of buildings that are never drawn across the ash. Then the mountain goes. A column climbs the sky with lightning inside it, bombs arc over the roofs and land as burning craters that light the street around them, a car flees toward you with its headlights on the ash, and the lamps fail one by one. A surge comes down the flank and across the town as a wall of glowing ash that strips every roof it passes. You are the wind: drag across the town and the ash scours off the windward faces and piles in the lee, and the drifts remember every gust, until the rain comes and washes the town back to grey for the next time.
